Organized Chaos

We made it! After over 40 hours of travel, with 13 of those on a bus that thankfully only broke down once, we have made it to Arusha. It is definitely a bit of a culture shock but most people speak some English so it has been easy getting around other than the fact that we probably look like a walking dollar sign. We have successfully arranged our 6 day safari when we finish our Kili climb so the ticks will leave us be.

Africa Unite
Cause we're moving right of Babylon
And we're going to our father's land

How good and how pleasant it would be
Before God and man
To see the unification of all Africans
As it's been said already
Let it be done right now
We are the children of the Rastaman
We are the children of the Higher Man

So Africa unite, Africa unite, yeah
Africa unite
'Cause we're moving right out of Babylon
And we're grooving to our Father's land

How good and how pleasant it would be
Before God and man
To see the unification of all Africans
As it's been said let it be done
I tell you who we are under the sun
We are the children of the Rastaman
We are the children of the Higher Man

Bob Marley felt it, maybe you two will as well.
Love you two!!

YYYEEAAAHHHHH!! JAMBO! I keep thinking of you there in the middle of your dark star safari.... did you get around to reading that Paul Theroux book? In any case you are living it now! I am so thrilled for both of you. Puts a big smile on my face. You'll never forget these first impressions of this magnificant contenent. I can't wait to hear stories of the locals you meet along your journey. And how gorgeous are those masai draped in red(to ward off the lions).... AH! You started your climb today... thinking of you both and so happy for you... xoxoxo I LOVE YOU zoe

congradulations on your journeys lift off..I, on the other hand, heard from Ortho central that my wings are clipped for 5 weeks..OMG I will drive everyone crazy. Rosa is here cleaning and I am already starting - giving her advice on every itsybitsy piece of dusty dirt. poor woman. but don't worry I will be as good as new when you return. My senses are with you so use lots of adjectives when you are updating your fan club.. and ofcourse I have to give some advice, so.. beware of scams waiting for dollar signs to trip into thier slippery grasp....l0ve

ok, guys.... where's my update? it is 12f out here, snowing, blowing, and i am jonesing for an african update. i know you're up a tall mountain, but where is the friendly israeli trekker with an entire satellite communications setup in his backpack? i've seen him. he is not a caricature. he is hiking kili barefoot while fasting; he - she? - is indominatibly physical and can survive on lichen and grubs. get on his system and say 'hi' to your fans! the chickens want to know about the birds you've seen; the boxers want to hear about the hyenas. salve our troubled souls with travelers tales from perfumed mountain passes.

WOW!!! cant wait to hear more details. Ara, how are your knees...... decending that much in one day sounds painful. There is a day of that on Machu Pichu also, but not as far, i dont think. We are so proud of both of you!! Natalie, altitude makes most sick, in Peru people were barfing alot, so your not alone. But wow... what an accomplishment!!! Too cool for school!! or should i say too cool for Kili?!! Hey, how was that view? Have a great, relaxing safari.... remember pole-pole!!! i remember them saying that to us when we were in Kenya.... and all we were doing was walking down the street!! HAPPY, now belated, BDAY to both of you from me , mom and ken. She's fine. I've been rubbing her with lotion, brushing her hair, manicures and pedis too. Hot tea and soup... and mostly, the real reason i'm here... to clean the kitchen countertops with the special cleaner!! Thats our mom bear, gotta love her. She will be down for quite awhile longer, but she off the pain pills and mostly a happy little clam.... probably like the two of you right about now....xoxxoxoxo thinking of you.zoe

Hi guys! Loved the post bear. Your Italian Zanzibar experience sounds familiar. Mom says she loved the detailed imagery of Natty in her red poncho, the rains in Africa... and you know her and i started singing that song immediatly, to Ken's horror i'm sure!!.... but the rain, and then the surprise of choir singing.... wow! that is really special.... i know those moments: you will remember that always i'd bet.... and you had us lol Ara with you not knowing how deep yoyu were diving and thought it was a 100 or 200 feet..... more on that later... you write well Ara... we love the posts, keep 'em coming. Your gonna love Istanbul!! how do you feel about leaving Africa? So mom is coming right along... doing much better. I've been here 21/2 weeks and am ready to get home, and confident that she'll manage fine. Her friends stop by alot so she's entertained. It's been really nice to spend so much time with her. Well we miss you and talk about where you are and what you might be doing, smelling, eating, meeting..... i've been sharing some of my travel stories.... i miss it there. Hope you are enjoying it... it can be overwhelming and annoying to travel in such poor countries, but i hope its getting to you both!! love you tons xoxoxoxxo mom and zoe

Greetings Ara and Nat...I am continuing to heal. Yesturday Ken sprung me from ny cage and we went to the movies and dinner..Today = 2/11/09 - lunched with "the Girls" at the Cafe..Oh Joy!!!I can not be up to long or move my head around to much or I pay later. I went to the Ortho Doc last week - those Ortho folks are a strange bunch, absolutly no empathy. On and off the middile fingers on my right hand are a bit numb- Ortho Doc says you just lost a little strength, not much .. you can live with that can't you? Try again!! Back to my GP for information I want to hear. Your trip is so awsome..I have found some pictures of Zagreb, Croatia and Ljubljana and Lake Bled, Slovenia - looks fantastic - are you going that way? (will try to send to you) Where are you have not heard in a while. can't stay on computer for to long - lots of love Mom
